Ian Wilson (born March 27, 1958 in Aberdeen) is a former Scottish international football player and football manager.

Career

Playing

Among the clubs he played for were Leicester City, Everton and Beşiktaş.

His finest moment at Everton was after coming on as a substitute in the in a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool. That summer, he signed for Istanbul giants Beşiktaş and in his only season there he won both the Turkish League Championship and the Turkish Cup.

Managerial

In 1993, he became manager of Peterhead F.C. before leaving to join Nagoya Grampus Eight in Japan as assistant manager to his former Everton teammate Gordon Milne [citenews|url=http://www.peterheadfc.org.uk/history|title=Peterhead Football Club Official Website] . He returned in 1995 before again leaving to join up with Milne, this time at Turkish club Beşiktaş J.K..

In June 2000 he began his third term as manager, and stayed until he was sacked in December 2003 [citenews|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/peterhead/3359819.stm|title=Peterhead sack boss Wilson|accessdate=31 December|accessyear=2003] .

After Management

Despite being linked with a number of Highland League jobs, he failed to make an immediate return to management but continued to write his weekly column 'Wilson's World' in the Evening Express newspaper. After that was axed, he disappeared.

In late 2007, rumours surfaced that Wilson had been reported as a missing person by a group of friends, worried that they had not heard from him in almost a year. He was however spotted on a beach in Turkey in January 2008 by a former Peterhead F.C. employee to the relief of friends, family and fans but it is not known if he has emigrated there or if he has returned to Scotland.
