Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is a large hospital in Alberta, Canada. It is located in the City of Calgary, and runs under the auspices of the Calgary Health Region.It was named after Peter Lougheed, who served as premier of Alberta from 1971 to 1985. The 500 bed hospital opened in 1988, and today contains over 600 beds, andprovides medical and surgical services not only to Calgary, but also southern Alberta. It has a 24 hours emergency service, an intensive care unit and ambulatory care. Since 2006, the centre is undergoing an expansion, with a new wing expected to be completed in late 2008.
