Route description

While Maryland Route 134 officially begins once Bellona Avenue crosses Charles Street, the street itself actually begins in Baltimore City at an intersection with MD 45 (York Road). The route continues north from there, across the Baltimore County line and through Rodgers Forge in Towson before it reaches Charles Street.[2]

The MD 134 designation begins once Bellona Avenue crosses Charles Street. It continues from the city line in a semi-circular fashion through Baltimore County's historic Ruxton and Riderwood communities, which all densely front the route with historic homes. MD 134 then approaches the Baltimore Light Rail in a densely wooded area and turns north to parallel the rail line. After this, MD 134 and Bellona Avenue re-enter development and quickly after meet Ruxton Road. At Ruxton Road, the MD 134 designation ends; however, Bellona Avenue continues to the north, following the Light Rail before turning east to return to Charles Street just south of the Baltimore Beltway.[1][2]

Primary uses of road

Bellona Avenue, though home to some historic communities, is a mostly sparsely-developed road, with large houses spaced far apart and some small shops. It is often used by motorists as an alternative to the many lights and high volume of traffic on Charles Street.

Public transportation

The No. 11 Line currently provides regular service along Bellona Avenue between Northern Parkway and Charles Street through Rodgers Forge. It is proposed that this will be the route of all no. 11 line trips in this area.

Baltimore's Central Light Rail line runs parallel and can be from most parts of Bellona Avenue west of Charles Street. However, there are no stops along the line in this area. When the line was initially planned, stops were proposed in the Ruxton and Riderwood communities. But community opposition and low ridership projection resulted in these plans being scrapped.

Junction list

The entire route is in Ruxton, Baltimore County.
