Jason R. Holsman (born March 25, 1976) is a politician from the U.S. state of Missouri. He is currently serving as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives for the 45th District (Jackson County).

Early life and education

Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Jason Holsman is the son of Gale and Judy Holsman. A 1994 graduate of Blue Valley High School, Holsman went on to attend the University of Missouri - Columbia. At MU, Holsman became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He later transferred to the University of Kansas, where he received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science and U.S. History in 1999. He went on to earn his Master of Arts Degree in Diplomacy & Military Science from Norwich University in Vermont. In 2005, Holsman received his Missouri State Teaching Certificate from Northwest Missouri State.

Career

After his graduation from the University of Kansas, Holsman took a position in the office of then-Senator John Ashcroft. Holman's tenure working for Ashcroft was brief and he soon returned to Missouri after only seven weeks on the United States Senate staff.

Upon returning to the Midwest, Holsman accepted a position as a political correspondent to the Missouri Legislature for the Suburban Journals. While working for the Suburban Journals, Holsman met his future spouse and returned to Kansas City where she worked as a 4th grade teacher.

Holsman spent three years as a network design engineer for Sprint PCS before becoming a certified public school teacher.

As a social studies teacher of inner-city students from Kansas City, Missouri at Van Horn High School, Holsman coached both varsity football and baseball.

Missouri State Representative

In 2006, Jason Holsman ran for a seat in the Missouri House of Representatives (District 45) previously held by Representative Cathy Jolly.

After his victory in the primary, Holsman handedly won the general election, defeating write-in candidate Tom Cole by over 7,400 votes.

On January 3, 2007, Holsman was sworn in as the State Representative for Missouri's 45th District. His committee assignments include the Joint Committee on Education and the Special Committees on Ticket to Work, and Tax Reform. He is the ranking democrat on the Special Committee for Energy and Environment.

His first piece of sponsored legislation, House Bill 869, creates a statewide uniform procedure allowing private citizens to install solar power and wind power on private property. It also establishes net metering in relationship to the grid.

On June 26, 2007, Senate Bill 54 - The Green Power Initiative Act - establishing target RPS - Renewable Portfolio Standard for utilities; sponsored by Sen. Chris Koster (D-31), was signed into law by Missouri Governor Matt Blunt. House Bill 869 was added to SB 54 as an amendment.

Personal information

Jason Holsman married his wife, Robyn, in March 2001. The couple has two children, Savannah Grace and Grant Thomas.

He is a member of the Ancient and Accepted Free Masons.

He has received numerous awards including Who's Who Among American High School Students, the National Citizenship Award, National Honor Roll of American Teachers, and Who's Who Among American Teachers (twice).
