From 1634, the Senate was headed by the five Great Officers of the Realm, each leading a branch of government:
*Lord High Steward or Justiciar (Swedish: "Riksdrots"), equivalent to a justice minister, also president of the Svea Court of Appeal.
*Lord High Constable (Swedish: "Riksmarsk"), Chief of the Army.
*Lord High Admiral (Swedish: "Riksamiral"), Chief of the Navy.
*Lord High Chancellor (Swedish: "Rikskansler"), equivalent to a foreign minister.
*Lord High Treasurer (Swedish: "Riksskattmästare"), equivalent to a finance minister.
