Berenice or Berenike (Greek: polytonic|Βερενίκη, "Berenikē") is the Ancient Macedonian form for Attic Greek "Φερενίκη" ("Pherenikē"), meaning "bearer of victory", from "φέρω" ("pherō") "to bear" + "νίκη" ("nikē") "victory" [ [http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/ptext?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.04.0057%3Aentry%3D%2319823 Berenike, Liddell and Scottt, "A Greek-English Lexicon", at Perseus] ] . Chatzopoulos] . The Latin form of the same name is Veronica.
