"Ecology Letters" is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published on behalf of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique by Blackwell Publishing.

Within nine years, the journal attained an Impact Factor of 7.609, making it the highest ranked and most cited original research journal in the Thomson ISI ecology category. [http://portal.isiknowledge.com/portal.cgi/portal.cgi?DestApp=JCR&Func=Frame&Init=Yes&SID=R1@IIc9dJ@LFM5iOkJK] . The current Editor-in-Chief of "Ecology Letters" is Dr. Michael Hochberg [http://mike.hochberg.free.fr/] .

Three types of article are published in "Ecology Letters":
*Letters: exciting findings in fast-moving areas
*Ideas and Perspectives: novel essays for a general audience
*Reviews: syntheses of important subjects which merit urgent coverage.

Publishing in "Ecology Letters"

Since 1998, the journal has developed a reputation for its rapid publication process. 100% of editorial decisions are made within pre-determined limits and the average time from submission to first decision is currently 22 days.

"Ecology Letters" also offers a fast-track review process for exceptionally novel, high profile submissions following contact with, and approval by, the Editor-in-Chief. A letter arguing for fast-track handling should be accompanied by evidence that the manuscript in question either addresses a high-profile problem in the discipline (supported by relevant citations) or breaks important new ground in a rapidly emerging field.
