Paul Chadbourne

Paul Ansel Chadbourne (October 21 1823 - 23 February 1883) was an American educator and naturalist who served as President of University of Wisconsin from 1867 to 1870, and President of Williams College from 1872 until his resignation in 1881. He was born in North Berwick, Maine. Chadbourne began at Philips Exeter Academy but transferred to Williams, where he became valedictorian in 1848. After heading several preparatory schools, he took a position at Williams, where he taught for fourteen years. In 1865-66 he served as a State Senator of Massachusetts. He worked in university administration until 1881. Following years of pulmonary problems, he died in 1883.
