"Atomic Betty" is a Canadian animated television series produced by Atomic Cartoons, Breakthrough Films & Television, and Tele Images Kids. Additional funding for production is provided by Teletoon in Canada and Métropole 6 in France.

Production

Breakthrough Films & Television became Atomic Cartoons' partner in producing and distributing the television series worldwide, beginning with Teletoon in Canada (premiered September 6, 2004) and Cartoon Network in the United States (premiered September 17, 2004)

The creators used Adobe Flash to create "Atomic Betty". There is considerable artistic influence from classic cel animation such as old Hanna-Barbera cartoons like "The Jetsons". Many of the characters (Notably Maximus I.Q.) and designs (Such as Betty's spaceship) take cues from early space operas, such as "Flash Gordon".Fact|date=February 2008

78 half-hour or 156 quarter-hour episodes were produced over the course of three seasons. There is also a full-hour Christmas special. The third season is currently airing as part of Teletoon (Canadian TV channel)'s summer programming block Camp Teletoon, under the new title "".

tory

The series centers on Betty (her last name has never been mentioned), a typical Moose Jaw Heights (a parody of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada) [" [http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/article.php?Article=419 Saskatchewan Home To New Superhero] ," "Hollywood North Report"] adolescent who enjoys school, science-fiction movies and singing in her band. Unknown to most of her friends and family, however, she is also a Galactic Guardian, dedicated to interstellar peacekeeping and law enforcement. As Atomic Betty, assisted by her pilot Sparky, and a robot named X-5, she confronts the evil overlord Maximus I.Q. and other intergalactic supervillains. Despite being rather unassuming on Earth, Atomic Betty is a superstar throughout the galaxy and even has her own fan club of loyal followers.

In each episode, a crisis occurs somewhere in the galaxy, while Betty enjoys some activity with her friends. Invariably, her bracelet begins beeping, and she runs off alone to save the galaxy. Accompanied by her crew, Betty manages to defeat the villains before returning home.

Although the series is about a spaceranger, the story line bears similarity to the superhero genre and, mostly, magical girl genre, since Betty has an identity secret to the people on Earth. Earlier seasons of Danny Phantom follow a similar concept too since he has a secret identity to the residents of Amity Park as well as the students and teachers of Casper High.
