Margarida of Prades (1395 – 1422) was the second
Queen consort ofMartin I of Aragon .Family
Margarita was a daughter of Pedro of Aragon, Baron of Entenza (1352-1395) and his wife Juana of Cabrera.
Her paternal grandparents were
Juan of Aragon, Count of Prades (1335-1414) and his wife Sancha Ximenez de Arenos. Juan served asSeneschal ofCatalonia .Juan was the second son of Peter (Pere) (1305-1381), Count of Ribagorça and Prades and his wife Jean of Foix.
Peter was a son of
James II of Aragon and his second wifeBlanca of Anjou . Jean was a daughter ofGaston I of Foix-Béarn , Head of the House of Foix.Blanca was a daughter of
Charles II of Naples andMaria Arpad of Hungary . Gaston was a son ofRoger-Bernard III of Foix and Margaret of Montcada, heiress ofBéarn .Roger-Bernard III was a son of

On
17 September ,1409 , Margarita marriedMartin I of Aragon , a second cousin of her father. The bride was about fourteen years old and the groom fifty-three. Martin had survived all his legitimate children from his first marriage withMaria de Luna and was in need of a legitimate heir of his own.On
31 March ,1410 , Martin I died after six months of marriage. They had no children. His death led to a two-yearinterregnum , which was ended by thePact of Caspe , in whichFerdinand I of Aragon ,infante of Castile's House of Trastámara, younger son of his sisterEleanor of Aragon , was chosen as the next king from among at least five contenders.Margarita remained a widow for about four years. She married her second husband Juan of Vilaragut in 1414. Again there were no children. Juan died in 1422. Margarita entered the monastery of
Monrepes . She is not considered to have outlived him for long.External links
