Figueira da Horta (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: "Figéra da Orta" and the São Vicente Crioulo: "F'géra da Horta") is a village in the southern part of the island of Maio. The village is around 10 to 15 km east of the island capital of Vila do Maio.

Geography

The village is located in the southern part of the island and is situated in a dry climate and it receives little precipitation annually. Farmlands are the island's most common and are mainly of cattle, groves and some fruits and vegetables and rarely some fruit productions and are nearly the size of the football field and its only has about tens of farms, some foodstuffs are received from the northern and the southern parts of the nation as well as the island. The area are hilly except for the southwest and contains several mountains. Its soil color ranges from tan to red.

Most of the houses are built with stone and concrete, several houses are built with either steel reinforced concrete or with stone and wood, a few homes are made up of mud and brick. uchits population are farmers and are based in agriculture.
