Samuel Tinsley

Samuel Tinsley

Samuel Tinsley (1847–1903) was a chess player born in Barnet, Herts in 1847, where he grew up. Unlike most masters, he did not take up chess until late in life, beginning to play the game seriously well into his forties.

His most notable achievements include sharing seventh prize at Manchester, 1890 with Simon Alapin and Theodor von Scheve. ["The Hastings chess tournament book", published 1896]
