Jiuzhou Port

Jiuzhou Port

Jiuzhou Port is the ferry port of Zhuhai. The port provides high speed ferry services to Hong Kong and Shenzhen. It is also developing into a transport hub with regular coach services connecting the port with various cities west of the Pearl River like Jiangmen and Shunde.

Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Jiuzhou), ZICT(J), located in the city of Zhuhai on the western bank of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) in the Guangdong Province, adjacent to Macau and convert|36|nmi|km from Hong Kong, commenced operations in 1993. Providing container and general cargo handling services, ZICT(J) operates five multi-purpose berths.

On 10 July 2007, a new ferry service between Jiuzhou port and Hong Kong International Airport began. The new service will have two roundtrip sailings per day and can carry 1,300 passengers. The ferries will depart Jiuzhou at 9.30am and 3.30pm and leave the airport at 11.15am and 5pm everyday. The frequency of the 50-minute service will grow to three roundtrip sailings each day by August and four each day by January 2008. Notes for Non-Chinese Traveling Through JiuZhou Port

Although you will only pass from a Special Administrative Region (S.A.R.) into mainland China (when coming from Macau or Hong Kong), the procedure is the same as if you were crossing from one country into another. You will need to complete an arrivals / departure card (available in the departure / arrivals hall) so remember to allow extra time for this.

When you first arrive at the port, turn right as you exit and walk alongside the covered walkway. This is the start of the taxi-rank and much more sensible travel than with the unlicensed drivers who might approach you as you first exit the building.

For those that don't speak the language, try to get a friend to write down the address of where you are headed - very few of the taxi drivers can speak English, but they are nearly always kind and friendly people - even the tiniest effort to speak 'the lingo' on your part will go a long way.

Forward Travel from JiuZhou Port

JiuZhou Port (Jiu Zhou Gang in pinyin, pronounced 'Joo Joe Gang') is connected by a number of other on-going transport options.

As mentioned in 'Notes for Non-Chinese Traveling Through JiuZhou Port', taxis are readily available to take you anywhere you need to go. Note that after a busy ferry has come in, you may have to queue and then wait for taxis to return.

To the right of the port on the sea wall - lined pavement is a bus stop for buses headed north. The number 99 is a great introduction to Zhuhai and takes you directly past the famous 'Fisher Girl' and offers a spectacular view of the surrounding islands.

Directly opposite the port is a larger bus terminus where a number of buses run regular services. From here the number 3 re-starts its route and heads north past ZhongShan University and Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai Campus, all the way up to Jin Ding where you will find the fantastic Mr. Pizza Restaurant (passing MANY other great spots along the way!)

Many other bus routes lead down into the bustling Gong Bei (look for 拱北, written vertically at the end of the list of stops the bus goes to) where you will find the China / Macau Border Crossing and shopping madness!
