Watkins Memorial High School

Watkins Memorial High School

Watkins Memorial High School is a public high school near Pataskala, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Southwest Licking School System, which was formed in 1955 by the merger of Etna, Kirkersville, and Pataskala high schools. The school's nickname is the Warriors and the school colors are black and gold. Formerly, the school mascot was "Willy the Wooly Warrior", but was retired in 2003 due to the nationwide outcry against sports mascot characterizations of Native Americans.

In 2004, the Watkins Memorial soccer team won the Ohio Division II state title, the school's only team sports state title. In 2006, the Watkins Memorial football team made the first Ohio playoff appearance in the school's history, advancing to the second round before losing to rival Pickerington Central. In 2006 the school's baseball team reached the state's final four.

The school was named in memory of Dr. Watkins who served the community for years. The school's biggest sports rivals are Big Walnut (Sunbury, Ohio), Pickerington North and Pickerington Central (Pickerington, Ohio). Watkins Middle School is located next to the high school.

The students live in the Pataskala, Kirkersville, Etna Township, Harrison Township, and Reynoldsburg area.
