Mid-States Equipment

Mid-States Equipment is a hydraulic distributing companany currently headquartered in Medford, Wisconsin. The company was started in 1960 by James Gummerson Sr. and was originally headquartered in Owen, Wisconsin. A branch was eventually opened in Ft. Pierce, Florida under the name Sun Hydraulics. The primary customers this branch was opened for were the orange growers. Walt Disney World was also a customer of Sun Hydrualics for a time, purchasing some equipment for their EPCOT Center Park. In 1982 after a fire devastated the main warehouse of the Owen operation, the company was moved to Medford, approximately 30 miles to the northeast. The Florida branch was closed in the mid 1980s. In the late 1980s, ownership of the company was transferred to James Gummerson Jr. Under his leadership, the company opened a branch office in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. That office was eventually moved to nearby Appleton, Wisconsin. Today, the company employs 18 persons between the Medford and Appleton offices.
