Base memory

Base memory is the first 640 kibibytes (KiB) of recognised memory on an IBM Compatible PC, also called Conventional memory.

In modern usage, the term Base memory is used to refer to the amount of RAM memory installed on a new computer, which can be significantly upgraded in future [http://www.techweb.com/encyclopedia/defineterm.jhtml?term=base+memory] .
