Tetranitrogen

Tetranitrogen

As reported in the January 18, 2002 Edition of "Science" at the University of Rome La Sapienza, Fulvio Cacace and his colleagues created a novel form of nitrogen known as tetranitrogen (N4). It is an unstable polynitrogen molecule that may be useful in such applications as propellants and explosives due to its ability to release a lot of energy when it breaks apart.
