Academics

Cherokee Trail offers many academic opportunities for students. As prior mentioned, the school is one of two International Baccalaureate certified high schools in the Cherry Creek School District and it also offers a selection of Advanced Placement courses. In the 2006-2007 school year CTHS was rated "High" (out of Unsatisfactory, Low, Average, High and Excellent) by the Colorado Department of Education for the High School level.[2] The school consistently scores above the state average in all subjects and grades for the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) tests. Cherokee Trail juniors that take the ACT college admissions test (it is a Colorado mandate that all juniors take the ACT test), also consistently score at or near both the state and national averages.

Athletics

Cherokee Trail competes in the 5A Centennial league for sports. Cherokee Trail is also home to Legacy Stadium, the largest school stadium in Colorado. The stadium boasts an advanced artificial grass field, ticket booths, cable broadcasting cameras and A/V equipment, as well as modern architecture. They also have a 25-yard swimming pool and a 12-foot diving well with two one-meter diving boards.

Cherokee Trail swimmers won the 100 yard Breaststroke at both the 2006 and 2007 CHSAA Boys 4A Swim and Dive State Championships.[3]

On May 19, 2007, both the Boys Track and Baseball teams won the Colorado State Championship in their respective sports.[4][5]

Performing Arts

Cherokee Trail is known for its rising Performing Arts program. Every year, the school produces one fall drama, one spring musical, and a compilation of student written and directed one acts. Additionally, the department presents an annual showcase of solos, duets, and various choirs, sponsored by the CTHS Tri-M Music Honor Society. In the 2004-2005 school year, the Performing Arts Department produced its first fall drama, "John Lennon and Me". Afterwards, the department produced its first musical, "Grease", which proved to be a large success.

During the 2005-2006 school year, the school produced "Inherit the Wind" as its fall play and "The Wizard of Oz" as its spring musical.

The school year of 2006-2007 saw a Student Written and Directed Thespian Show, "The Great Ice Heist," come to fruition. Following that, the fall show, "All in the Timing" and the spring musical, "South Pacific" were also performed. The season closed with another thespian- produced play in the spring, "The Diary of Anne Frank."

The 2007-2008 school year began with the acclaimed comedy, "Charley's Aunt," and the highly successful "Beauty and the Beast." The Performing Arts department also saw the Student Written/Directed One Acts return in the Spring, as well as the First Annual Variety Show Performing Arts Showcase.

The 2008-2009 season included Neil Simon's "Fools" as the fall play, as well as Alan Menken's "Little Shop of Horrors" as the spring musical, both of which were critically acclaimed.

In the 2009-2010 school year, the Performing Arts Department kicked off their theatrical season with Rodger's and Hammerstein's "Cinderella." Afterward, the department performed "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)," ending their spring season with the Annual Student Directed One Acts.

Cherokee Trail is the home of the International Thespian Society Troupe #6971, and has played host to a number of notable Thespians, including Colorado State Thespian State Student Officers and International Thespian Officers. In December 2010, CTHS Senior Jeremiah Light will perform in the first ever Colorado All State Musical Production: "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at the Wells Fargo Theatre in downtown Denver.

Also, the school's Pep Band and Drumline's "Trombone Suicides" and "Headchops" are a point of pride among the student body to the point where Drumline performances and Suicides are requested by the student body at assemblies and other student gatherings (ie. sporting events, fundraisers, tailgates)
