New Zealand was represented at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens by a team of 151 competitors and 137 officials. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was discus thrower Beatrice Faumuina, and at the closing ceremony, gold medallist Sarah Ulmer. New Zealand competed in only 19 of the 32 sports at the games, not entering competitors in Baseball, Diving, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Modern Pentathlon, Softball, Synchronised Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, Weightlifting, or Wrestling.
