"Schizoglossa major" was a
speciesof large predatory, air-breathing, land slug, a carnivorousterrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscin the family Rhytididae, which also contains the genera Powelliphantaand Rhytida.
This species is now
Like others in this
genus, the slug had a shell which was quite small compared to its (hypothetical) body size.
This snail was endemic to the
North Islandof New Zealand.
The shells of this species are found with
moabones at Pukemiroin the Waikatoarea of the North Island.
The shell is very much larger than "
Schizoglossa worthyae", and more roundly ovate.
The shell length is up to 36 mm, a width of 26 mm, and a thickness of 8 mm.
