Dr. Lipman is also a frequent commentator on U.S. crime and violence, including commentary on the causes of notable cases of homicide, murder and manslaughter; on spousal murder; on school shootings; on family homicide; on white collar crime and on workplace and community violence. Cases in which the analysis of Dr. Lipman has been prominent include the Virginia Tech massacre, the shootings in Denver and Colorado Springs, the Omaha Mall Shootings, the shootings at Columbine, Jonesboro, Nickel Mines, Paducah, Springfield, Oregon, and Pearl, Mississippi; the Mark Barton family homicide; the case of Claude Allen, the White House staffer arrested in 2006; the Washington, DC and Ohio sniper shootings; the Han shootings of 2006; and the national trials and cases of Simpson, Peterson et al.

Accomplishments

Dr. Lipman has served as a professor at Georgetown University, The George Washington University, and Rutgers University, and has also held positions at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Yale Psychiatric Institute. At Georgetown, he founded the Center for the Study of Violence as well as the Georgetown Youth Violence Summit. Dr. Lipman also served as Co-Chairman of the Academic Advisory Council of the White House Campaign Against Youth Violence, initiated at a White House summit during the Clinton Administration. He has also served as a consultant on the effects of September 11, 2001 to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and to the U.S. Department of State. He lectures both nationally and internationally on the subjects of violence, crime, terrorism, and their causes, after-effects, and prevention.

Dr. Lipman is author of 15 publications in professional journals, and has been frequently interviewed by such publications and organizations as The Washington Post, the Associated Press, The Los Angeles Times, Agence France Press, U.S. News and World Report, USA Today, and The National Post regarding articles on violence, crime, and terrorism. Dr. Lipman is also the author of the book "Misunderstanding Violence: Cyclical Tragedies", planned for publication in 2008, and is represented by Jan Miller of Dupree/Miller (Stephen Covey, Dr. Phil McGraw, etc.), and is also the author of the well-known political and media psychology blog Head of State. He also has an additional career as a composer, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist and recording artist, recording on the OneSuch label, his most recent album, "Greetings From Lafayette Park, having been released in 2008. The songs "Pennsylvania Avenue", "Dirty Little Secret", "Future Remembers", "Unintended Consequences", "The Joke", and "Dirty Life" have reached top popularity on iTunes since its release.
