Joel Stakes

The Joel Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in the United Kingdom open to thoroughbreds which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres) on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket Racecourse, and it takes place annually in late September or early October.

Formerly known as the Main Reef Stakes, it was given its present title in 1994. This was in honour of the Joels, a family of prominent racehorse owners and breeders. The race was promoted to Group 3 status in 2003, having been previously run at Listed level. Before 1989 the distance was 1 mile and 2 furlongs.
