MCL Cafeterias

MCL Cafeterias

MCL Cafeterias is a chain of American cafeteria-style restaurants.

Background

The company began with a single cafeteria in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1950, founded by Charles O. McGaughey and George Laughner. MCL is an abbreviation for "McLaughner's Cafeterias" [ [http://www.mclhomemade.com/ourstory_history.cfm Our story ] ] . Today, the chain operates 20 locations in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. It is a privately owned company, now exclusively owned by the McGaughey family.

A location in Bloomington, Indiana is operated under the name "Mayfields."

The company is undergoing an image change, and will now be known as "MCL Restaurant and Bakery," although no fundamental changes have been made in production. They are known for their made-from-scratch foods, featuring fresh, local produce when available. [ [http://www.mclhomemade.com/ourstory_homemade.cfm Our story ] ]

Its major competitor was a small chain of similar Indiana-based cafeterias called Laughner's Cafeteria, now defunct.
