John Storm

John Storm (January 3, 1760 – December 13, 1835) is most well known for being one of less than 90 dragoons that fought under Colonel William Washington during the Battle of Cowpens in the American Revolutionary War.Haller, Stephen E., "William Washington: Cavalryman of the Revolution". Published 2001. Heritage Books Inc.] Dragoons commanded huge power upon the battlefield at the time because of their ability to incite fear within the enemy infantry. "The shock of a cavalry charge often proved decisive in gaining a victory." [ [http://www.cr.nps.gov/museum/exhibits/revwar/vafo/vafohorse.html Dragoon Description] . United States National Park Service. Accessed December 29, 2006.] Had it not been for these handful of dragoons, the Battle of Cowpens, a turning point in the war, could have been an American loss. John Storm was born in Latimore Township, Pennsylvania and died in Greene County, Indiana.John Storm's Pension Record. September 24, 1831. First-hand account. Held at the National Archives in Washington D.C.] He served under Captains Ballard Smith and Thomas Boyer in the 1st Virginia Regiment starting in 1780. He is believed to have fought not only in the Battle of Cowpens, but the Battle of Guildford Court House as well.
