Planet Source Code

Planet Source Code

Planet Source Code is a free source code database and sharing website. As part of the Exhedra Solutions group, as with [http://www.rentacoder.com RentACoder.com] , it was founded by Ian Ippolito.

A monthly contest is held in each programming language category for the "best code." This is based on a rating and comment system, by which people are expected to leave constructive messages and ratings whenever possible. The authors of the three or four selected "Code of the Month" items receive their choice of prize from a range of books and software.

Members can upload and download unlimited amounts of code, and all uploads are automatically entered into the coding contest for the month. Members can upload content in the form of plaintext code, zip files containing full projects, tutorials, or reviews of third party products. The site displays prompts to sign up after five code views.

Code can be used from any submissions, but credit must be given to the author if requested.

Recently there has been a bit of confusion in the Visual Basic section. With the new addition of Visual Basic .NET from Microsoft, viewers who searched for new code unsuccessfully tried to run the submitted VB .NET code on their VB 6.0 compilers. (As with much of Microsoft software, Visual Basic .NET is incompatible with Visual Basic 6.0)

Since Early 2008 the site has been down and users are unable to access the examples of code submitted to the site.
