] In total 23,596 have developed clinical AIDS. 17,932 people have died with HIV being diagnosed, of which about 80% have been confirmed as AIDS related. 2,700 of the new new infections were in the men having sex with men (MSM) group.

There have been 706,000 HIV tests taken in the UK in 2006, which was a rise in testing from a figure of 629,000 in 2005 showing that effective testing was being more accepted.
