Andrew Cowper

Andrew King Cowper MC & Two Bars (16 November 1898 - 25 June 1989) was an Australian fighter pilot and ace of World War I. He shot down 19 German aircraft between his entry into the war in 1917 and the end of the war in 1918, tying him with Cedric Howell as the 6th highest-scoring Australian pilot of the war. He flew with 24 Squadron of the RFC all through the war, mostly in S.E.5as. He was awarded the Military Cross for a particularly successful patrol in early 1918. He is a descendant of William Cowper, an 18th century English poet. Cowper survived the war and served with 79 Squadron during the occupation of Germany. He then returned to Australia, where he lived until his death in 1989.
