Transitional cell carcinoma is a type of cancer that originates in the kidney, bladder or ureter. It is the most common type of bladder cancer.

It arises from the transitional epithelium lining found in these organs. [DorlandsDict|two/000017251|transitional cell carcinoma]

When the term "urothelial" is used, it specifically refers to a carcinoma of the urothelium. However, transitional cell carcinoma can also be associated with the prostate.cite journal |author=Walsh DL, Chang SS |title=Dilemmas in the treatment of urothelial cancers of the prostate |journal=Urol.
