"Afterglow" is the closing track from the 1976 Genesis album "Wind & Wuthering".

The song was composed by Tony Banks, who described it as a "spontaneous" piece that was written in about the same amount of time as it takes to play it.

Arguably the best-known song from "Wind & Wuthering", "Afterglow" became a staple on Genesis tours for over 10 years, from the 1977 Wind & Wuthering Tour until the 1986/7 Invisible Touch Tour [http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=33:x0rvad5kl8x3] It was played as part of the 2007 , as part of a medley that also included "In The Cage", "The Cinema Show", and "Duke's Travels" [http://www.genesis-movement.org/tioa2007europe.html] .

A Moog Taurus bass pedal is used to create a drone effect on which much of the song is structured. Live versions of the song appear on the live albums "Seconds Out" , "Three Sides Live" and "Live Over Europe 2007". The live versions usually contain a musical 'quote', in the form of a distinctive drum riff, from the Frank Zappa song "Trouble Every Day", a song from "Freak Out!" that Chester Thompson (who augments the band when they play live) learnt when a member of the Frank Zappa band (1973-1974).
