WHPR-FM (88.1 FM, "Power Talk 88.1") is a talk radio and oldies music radio station based in Highland Park, Michigan, owned and operated by R. J.'s Late Night Entertainment Corporation.

WHPR-FM's programming is generally brokered talk programming, much of it simulcast on its co-owned television station, W33BY channel 33. During late-night and some evening hours, oldies are played.

History

The station was founded May 21, 1954 by the Highland Park Community College, as part of the college's student radio service. On December 20, 1994, the college closed down, and the station was sold to R.J. Watkins, owner of local low-powered station W33BY (then on channel 68 as W68CH). Under Watkins, he reformulated the station as a local station that serves the African-American community in the Highland Park area.

Controversy

WHPR-FM was admonished by the FCC in 2001 for running advertising contrary to its status as a "Noncommercial Educational Station."
