The Podcast Network (TPN) is a company founded by Cameron Reilly and Mick Stanic, two Australian media identities. The company is one of the world's first podcasting businesses, having launched on February 14, 2005. It currently produces over 95 podcasts and has a claimed monthly global audience of over five hundred thousand people. The company's stated goal is to produce high quality digital programming on a wide variety of niche topics to global audiences and to attempt to re-invent media business models and formats by leveraging emerging production and distribution technologies and harnessing the global increase in citizen media content.

History

Having produced [http://gdayworld.thepodcastnetwork.com/2004/11/29/gday-world-website-opens-for-business/ Australia's first podcast] Fact|date=October 2007 ( [http://gdayworld.thepodcastnetwork.com/ "G'Day World"] on November 26, 2004), Reilly and Stanic also produced the world's first "Skypecast" by recording individual sides of a Skype call and stitching them together in post-production.Fact|date=October 2007 Joining them for the launch of TPN on Valentine's Day were Richard Giles and Ewan Spence, bringing together [http://gadget.thepodcastnetwork.com/ The Gadget Show] and [http://www.splatt.com.au/blog/archives/2006/05/the_podcast_net_5.html The Mobiles Show] podcasts respectively.

Mark Hunter, previously signed with PodShow, joined TPN in March 2006 with [http://mellowmonday.thepodcastnetwork.com/ The Mellow Monday Show] .

Mick Stanic announced on his personal blog that he had left TPN on May 19, 2006, as his presence was holding back both the growth of TPN and his own life. On October 31, 2006, TPN announced a pilot joint production with Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, launching an entertainment gossip podcast called [http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/interactive/0,,5001501,00.html 'Showbuzz'.]

On September 27, 2007, TPN [http://tpn.thepodcastnetwork.com/2007/09/27/john-cleese-to-release-new-video-series-in-conjunction-with-the-podcast-network/ announced] it had signed a deal with British actor, writer and comedian John Cleese to produce a series of video podcasts called HEADCAST to be published on TPN's website.
