Kitikmeot Region, Nunavut

Kitikmeot Region (Inuktitut: "Qitirmiut" ᕿᑎᕐᒥᐅᑦ) is an administrative region of Nunavut. It consists of the southern and eastern parts of Victoria Island with the adjacent part of the mainland as far as the Boothia Peninsula, together with King William Island and the southern portion of Prince of Wales Island. The regional seat is Cambridge Bay (population 1,477).

Before 1999, Kitikmeot Region existed under slightly different boundaries as Kitikmeot Region, Northwest Territories.

Regionalist movement

Bob Lyall President of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association has proposed the formation of a political party called the "Bloc Kitikmeot" to run in the next Nunavut general election. This is in response to the Government of Nunavut taking most of the infrastructure money and spending it in the Baffin Region. The new political party is advocating that the Kitikmeot Region separate from Nunavut and form its own territory.cite web|url=http://www.nunatsiaq.com/test/archives/2007/710/71026/news/nunavut/71026_635.html|title=What’s next?
