Fort Lincoln, Washington, D.C.

Fort Lincoln is a neighborhood located in northeast Washington, D.C. It is bounded by Bladensburg Road to the northwest, Eastern Avenue to the northeast, New York Avenue NE to the south, and South Dakota Avenue NE to the southwest.

Fort Lincoln contains a Civil War-era fort that was constructed for the defense of Washington. The fort lay on the northeast boundary of the District of Columbia and was built directly on the line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad that led into Washington.

The neighborhood is home to the Fort Lincoln Cemetery and the Fort Lincoln new town development constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, home to current Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier. [http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/29/AR2007042901503.html]
