Club career

Bakkal made his PSV Eindhoven debut during the 2003–04 season, and has spent loan spells at FC Den Bosch, FC Eindhoven and FC Twente. In November 2010, Bakkal was bitten by Luis Suárez on the shoulder during the 0-0 draw between PSV and Ajax on 20 November 2010.[1]

On 31 August 2011, Bakkal signed on a season-long loan deal for the Eredivisie rivals Feyenoord.

International career

In 2007, Bakkal was called up by Jong Oranje coach Foppe de Haan to be part of his squad for the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship held in the Netherlands. Bakkal participated in both of their first round group matches against Israel (1–0 win) and Portugal (2–1 win) to secure a semi final spot and to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. In the semi finals against England (1–1, 13–12 after 32 penalty kicks) Bakkal played, but was substituted in the second half by Roy Beerens. The Dutch went on to retain their 2006 title by beating Serbia 4–1 in the final. Bakkal opened the scoring in that match.
