Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China, is made up of prefecture-level divisions, which are divided into county-level divisions, which are then divided into township-level divisions. These are:
* 12 prefecture-level divisions
** 9 prefecture-level cities
** 3 leagues
* 101 county-level divisions
** 21 districts
** 11 county-level cities
** 17 counties
** 49 banners
** 3 autonomous banners
* 1425 township-level divisions
** 532 towns
** 407 townships
** 277 sumu
** 18 ethnic townships
** 1 ethnic sumu
** 190 subdistricts
This chart lists only the prefecture-level and county-level divisions of Inner Mongolia.Recent changes:
*1995: Horinger County and Qingshuihe County are transferred from Ulaan Chab League (now Ulaan Chab Prefecture-level City) to Hohhot Prefecture-level City.
*1996: Wuchuan County is transferred from Ulaan Chab League (now Ulaan Chab Prefecture-level City) to Hohhot Prefecture-level City.
*1996: Darhan Muminggan United Banner is transferred from Ulaan Chab League (now Ulaan Chab Prefecture-level City) to Baotou Prefecture-level City.
*1996: Arxan County-level City is established from parts of Horqin Right Front Banner in Hinggan League.
*1999: Jirim League (哲里木盟) becomes Tongliao Prefecture-level City; its capital, Tongliao County-level City, becomes Horqin District.
*1999: Suburban District (郊区) and Shiguai Mining District (石拐矿区; Shiguaikuang District) of Baotou Prefecture-level City are renamed Jiuyuan District and Shiguai District, respectively.
*2000: Suburban District (郊区) of Hohhot Prefecture-level City is renamed Saihan District. In addition, the borders of Hohhot's districts are rearranged.
*2001: Yeke Juu League (伊克昭盟) becomes Ordos Prefecture-level City; its capital, Dongsheng County-level City, becomes Dongsheng District.
*2001: Hulunbuir League (呼伦贝尔盟) becomes Hulunbuir Prefecture-level City; its capital, Hailar County-level City, becomes Hailar District.
*2003: Bayan Nur League (巴彦淖尔盟) becomes Bayan Nur Prefecture-level City; its capital, Linhe County-level City, becomes Linhe District.
*2003: Ulaan Chab League (乌兰察布盟) becomes Ulaan Chab Prefecture-level City; its capital, Jining County-level City, becomes Jining District.
