Atrial volume receptors

Atrial volume receptors

Atrial volume receptors are low pressure baroreceptors found in the atria.

When pressure drops in the atria, indicating a drop in blood volume, a signal is sent from the atrial volume receptors to the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus, in turn, stimulates the production of vasopressin (ADH). [ [http://www2.kumc.edu/ki/physiology/course/eight/8_3.htm VIII. Control of Extracellular Fluid Volume ] ]
