William Richardson (cricketer)

William Richardson (cricketer)

George William Richardson (born April 26, 1938) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a left-arm medium-fast bowler.

Richardson started his professional Derbyshire career in 1959, taking three wickets in his debut match. He finished the 1959 season with one half-century under his belt, the first of four he would make during his Derbyshire career.

From the 1962 season onward, Richardson played only intermittently, and Derbyshire finished the 1963 season at the bottom of the table. After finishing the 1963 season, he played just once during the entirety of 1964, and failed to make an impression upon his brief reappearance in the first team in 1965, finishing with a season average of below three runs from eight innings.

Richardson, a promising-looking lower-order batsman during the early part of his career, was relegated to the tailend after some poor performances, and did not last in the team beyond 1965. He was the second of three generations of Richardson family members to play cricket, his father Arthur having played between 1928 and 1936, club captain for five of those years, and his son Alastair playing between 1992 and 1993.
