Hopkins Junior High School is a secondary school in Fremont, California. It is one of five junior high schools in the city belonging to the Fremont Unified School District. Graduates from four local elementary schools attend Hopkins Junior High. Students leaving Hopkins move on to the Mission San Jose High School. The school had the highest API score for public junior high schools in California for the year of 2005, and the second highest in 2006. Graduates from Chadbourne Elementary School, Gomes Elementary School, Mission San Jose Elementary School, and Mission Valley Elementary School attend Hopkins Junior High. Hopkins is part of the attendance area for Mission San Jose High School, with students moving on to that school after leaving Hopkins.

Music Department

The Hopkins Music Department is one of the strongest in the state of California, with the school's concert and jazz bands have receiving high ratings at festivals since 1985. The bands have received first place awards at the Music in the Parks festival in Anaheim, California six times. Hopkins has a new string orchestra program which has also received high ratings, with both the intermediate and advanced orchestras receiving superior ratings at the California Music Educators Association Orchestra Festival in May 2007. The Advanced Orchestra received a rating of 99 out of 100 at this festival, the highest of any junior high or high school group performing.

Field Trips

The school runs annual field trips to both New York City and Washington, D.C. The New York trip is organised by the drama department and includes visits to famous landmarks and building such as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and the Rockefeller Center and features a student performance at a New York theatre. The Washington D.C. trip allows eighth grade students to visit their congressmen, representatives, and notable landmarks such as the Vietnam Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Smithsonian Institution
