Awaba (IPAEng|əˈwɒbə) is a small town and locality in the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia, inland from Toronto.

History

The name Awaba is of Aboriginal origins, and means "flat or plain surface", referring to Lake Macquarie. A timber depot was established there in 1885, and the township created the same year. The railway station was opened in 1887.

Facilities

The town contains a railway station on the Newcastle and Central Coast railway line, a primary school (opened 1891), and a Rural Fire Station. The locality contains a state colliery and parts of the Awaba State Forest.
