Kazimiera Szczuka

Kazimiera Szczuka (born 22 June 1966) is a Polish literary historian, literary critic and television personality, known from the Polish edition of The Weakest Link.

Ms. Szczuka is a member of the Green Party, advocate of gay rights and supporter of the right to abortion. This may be why she is the object of strong dislike among the country's conservative Catholic citizens.

In March, 2006 Szczuka satirized on a TV programme [Szczuka on a TV programme [http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-847027218027709750] ] a young woman who frequently recites prayers on Radio Maryja, claiming to not know that the woman was confined to a wheelchair. Despite Szczuka's public apology, she was found guilty of "insulting a disabled person and mocking her religion" by the Polish National Broadcasting Council, and the station on which she had appeared was fined 500,000 PLN.

Szczuka complained later - "They hate me because I'm a feminist, I'm Jewish - mostly because I'm a feminist" - in an interview for The New York Times [ NYT article "Letter from Poland - Differing Treatment of Religious Slurs Raises an Old Issue" by Richard Bernstein [http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/03/world/03letter.html?n=Top/Reference/Times%20Topics/Organizations/W/World%20Jewish%20Congress] ] and International Herald Tribune [IHT article "Culture war seen in Polish broadcasting caseOne station is fined another gets a pass" by Richard Bernstein [http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/05/03/news/poland.php] ] .

She works for TVN24 in "Wydanie drugie poprawione". She has worked since 2003 for TVN in "Najsłabsze Ogniwo" (the Polish version of "The Weakest Link"), and in "Dwururka".
