Bagelkhand (or Baghelkhand) is a region in central
India, in northeastern Madhya Pradeshstate. It includes the Madhya Pradesh districts of Anuppur, Rewa, Satna, Shadol, Sidhi, and Umaria, and the adjacent Uttar Pradeshdistrict of Sonbhadra and the eastern, Non-doabi parts of Allahabad.
Baghels, who give their name to the region, are a branch of the SolankiRajputs who once ruled in Gujaratand migrated eastward in the 13th century. Vyaghra Dev was the first Solanki ruler who came to this area from Gujarat and established his rule. "Vyaghra" is Sanskritword which means "Bagh" in Hindi. The descendants of Vyaghra Dev are known as Baghels. Bagelkhand Agencyderived its name from the region.
