Conrad Mieschke

Conrad Mieschke

Conrad Mieschke is a professional Canadian artist.

Born in Poland to German parents in 1938, Conrad Mieschke was raised, educated, apprenticed and worked as a bookbinder and book restorer in Germany. During that time, he competed in two national bookbinding competitions; his work was award silver at the first competition, gold at the second. He undertook further studies at The Graphic Academy in Munich, and graduated in 1963 with a Master Bookbinder certificate.

In 1965, he immigrated to Canada, working for a publishing company in Toronto. By 1970, he decided to pursue his ambition of being a full-time artist.

Shortly thereafter, his wife died in a car accident; this left him to support and raise his young son Paul solely through his artistic endeavors. Paul has since graduated from University of Toronto and is a licensed, practising Physiotherapist.

Since 1971, he has continuously exhibited at the Eaton's Art Gallery in Toronto, with numerous one-man shows and group shows until the gallery's closure in 1987. Since then, he exhibited at various commercial galleries in Ontario, and also arranged his own exhibitions at private and commercial locations.

In 1999 he was awarded "Arts Person of the Year" by the Brampton Arts Council.
