Funtime Comics

Funtime Comics is a group formed in 1991 by a group of comic artists and enthusiasts from the University of Canterbury. Since then it has grown to provide a forum for promotion and discussion of comics by writers and artists throughout New Zealand. The group publishes an anthology entitled "Funtime Comics Presents" featuring artwork from local and international artists. Under the long-standing editorship of Darren Schroeder [ [http://www.comics.org.nz/wiki/index.php/Darren_Schroeder Main Page - Comics.org.nz ] ] the anthology reached Issue 21 in 2005. Issue 22 was released in mid 2007 under the new editorship of Isaac Freeman [ [http://www.comics.org.nz/wiki/index.php/Isaac_Freeman Main Page - Comics.org.nz ] ] . Well known New Zealand comic artists Jared Lane [ [http://www.comics.org.nz/wiki/index.php/Jared_Lane Main Page - Comics.org.nz ] ] , Andrew Kepple and Ruth Boyask [ [http://www.comics.org.nz/wiki/index.php/Ruth_Boyask Main Page - Comics.org.nz ] ] are long-term contributors.

The group also hosts monthly workshops for comic artists and maintains the [http://www.comics.org.nz Register of New Zealand Comics] , created and maintained by Darren Schroeder. A Funtime Comics workshop is also featured in the Shirley Horrocks documentary The Comics Show [ [http://www.enzedff.co.nz/default.aspx?id=5000&region=2 The Comics Show ] ] , alongside individual interviews with Funtimers Jared Lane, Isaac Freeman and Darren Schroeder. A DVD version features extra interviews with Funtime artists Ruth Boyask and Bob Gibbons.
