The Gateway Grizzlies are a professional baseball team based in the St. Louis suburb of Sauget, Illinois, in the United States. The Grizzlies are a member of the West Division of the Frontier League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball. From the 2001 season to the present, the Grizzlies have played their home games at GCS Ballpark (formerly GMC Stadium).

As the Grizzlies represent the Metro-East region of Illinois, the geographical portion of the team's name references the city of St. Louis' nickname of "Gateway City."

History

The Grizzlies entered the Frontier League in 2001 and won their first championship in 2003, defeating the Evansville Otters in three straight games including a 12-inning victory in the final game. Previously, the Grizzlies swept the Washington Wild Things in the first round of the Frontier League playoffs.

In 2004, the Grizzlies set a Frontier League attendance record with an average of 217,500 fans.
