Litmanová is a
village andmunicipality inStará Ľubovňa District in thePrešov Region of northernSlovakia .A small ski resort and aCatholic religious site are located in Litmanová.History
In historical records the
village was first mentioned in1412 , whenHungary rented Litmanova toPoland in an effort to raise money for a war. After ownership for almost 300 years,Poland returned Litmanova back to Hungarian possession. Then in 1918, the separation of theAustria-Hungary Empire gave way to Litmanova’s admittance into the newly formed country ofCzechoslovakia . Finally, in 1993, through a joint decision,Czechoslovakia was partitioned into the Czech and Slovak Republics. Since this time, Litmanova has been part of the Slovak Republic. Many residents immigrated to theUnited States in the early 1900s.Geography
The
municipality lies at analtitude of 670metres and covers anarea of 17.921 km². It had apopulation of 629 people in 2004. Litmanová is located very close to the Polish border. No roads cross the border here, but there are a number of hiking trails with border crossings.Government
Litmanova’s
government consists of a head mayor and seven councilmen. An election period occurs every four years and each official is elected by the village people. The length of an official’s term is unlimited and only dependent upon the townspeople’s desire for them.Education
Education in this small village is limited to one tiny schoolhouse. The school holds roughly: 80 students, 10 teachers, and principal and vice principal. Grades taught at this school include only the first four levels. For additional learning students must travel into the closest city, of
Stara Lubovna , approximately 12 miles away.Great Religious Event
During a time frame of five years, two Litmanova girls were approached by
Catholic religion’s,Blessed Virgin Mary .
