Georgia head coach Vince Dooley called Hoage "the best defensive player I've ever coached and maybe the best one I've ever seen." [ [http://www.cosida.com/news.asp?id=440 Academic All-America Hall of Fame Class Inducted] ] He finished 5th in the voting for the Heisman Trophy in 1983. [ [http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/schools/GA Draft history for UGA] ] His NFL career spanned 13 seasons and six teams: the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Houston Oilers, San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals. His professional football career ended in 1996.

In 2002, Hoage and his wife, Jennifer, purchased a 26-acre vineyard in Paso Robles, California, where they now live. The vineyard is operated as Terry Hoage Vineyards and produces a syrah and a grenache-syrah blend.
