- Lyubery
During the period of
Glasnost in the late 1980s in theSoviet Union , the Lyubery were a youth-cult whose aim was to "cleanse" Soviet society of Western influences by attackingWesternized youth, mainly in major cities such asMoscow . They singled out and targeted people who who looked like a fan of Western pop culture or who engaged or looked like they would engage in protests against the Soviet government. The name "Lyubery" comes the Moscow industrial suburb ofLyubertsy , from which many of the teenagenationalist thugs came.References
