Scór

Scór

Scór (English: "Score") is a division of the Gaelic Athletic Association charged with promotion of cultural activities, and the name of a series of annual competitions in such activities.

Rule 4 of the GAA's official guide reads:

"The Association shall actively support the Irish language, traditional Irish dancing, music, song, and other aspects of Irish culture. It shall foster an awareness and love of the national ideals in the people of Ireland, and assist in promoting a community spirit through its clubs [ [http://www.gaa.ie/files/pdf/official_guides_2006_p1.pdf GAAs Official Guide, book 1] ] ."

The group was formally founded in 1969, and is promoted through various GAA clubs throughout Ireland (as well as some clubs outside of Ireland).

Structure

Scór competitions are taken part in, through the individual counties of Ireland. Each county is represented in each one of the many events by an individual club from the county. The winning counties go on to the provincial finals, before competing in the all-Ireland Scór finals. The competitions are split by age, into "Scór na nÓg" (or Young/Minor Score), and "Scór Sinsear" (Senior Score). They cater for under-17s and adults respectively.

The following sports, or games form the competitions:

* Ceili Dancing (Rince Foirne)
* Solo Singing (Amhranaiocht Aonair)
* Instrumental Music (Ceol Uirlise)
* Novelty Act (Nuachleas)
* Question Time (Trath na gCeist)
* Recitation & Storytelling (Aithearaisoirecht)
* Ballad Group (Bailead Grupa)
* Set Dancing(Rince Seit)
