The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), is an acoustical research institute which is part of the
University of Southampton, England. Founded in 1963, it has been awarded a 2006 Queen's Anniversary Prizefor Higher and Further Education.
The ISVR is divided into four distinct groups of research:
*The Dynamics Group, (specialized in the modelling, measurement and control of structural vibrations)
*The Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics Group (including the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Gas Turbine Noise) specialized in three fields which are aero-acoustics of aircraft engines, ultrasonics and underwater acoustics, noise source imaging and virtual acoustics.
*The Human Sciences Group (including the Hearing and Balance Centre and the Human Factors Research Unit) specialises in the human response to sound and vibration
*The Signal Processing and Control Group, which specialises in acoustics, dynamics, audiology and human sciences and as a basis for control of sound and vibration.
