The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is a public agency of the City and County of San Francisco that provides water, sewage, and power services to 1.6 million customers within three San Francisco Bay Area counties. [ [http://sfwater.org/mc_main.cfm/MC_ID/18 About SFPUC] , San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.]

The SFPUC manages a complex water supply system, reservoirs, tunnels, pipelines, and treatment systems in California. Being the third largest municipal utility agency in California, it has the responsibility to pump water to 2.4 millions of customers for residential, commercial and industrial uses. Near one-third of its delivered water is sent to customers in San Francisco, while the remaining two-third goes to those in Alameda, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. Besides delivering water, it also has the responsibility to treat waste water or sewage before emptying it into the Bay or the Pacific Ocean.
